I am happy to report that 4, 692 pounds of food was donated by the great residents of Turners Falls and Greenfield this year during the annual postal food drive. The fabulous postal carriers worked hard through pouring rain to get the food to us. This year Turners Falls donated 2, 657 pounds and Greenfield 2, 035! This year's drive was different because last year we had more poundage and this year we have more food and less pounds. A great food drive that is much appreciated. A big thank you to the postal workers in both towns as well as a big thank you to all the residents who put food out at their doors to help those less fortunate! THANK YOU!
Lots of work by the postal carriers of both Greenfield and Turners Falls resulted in a massive amount of food being hauled in for our food pantry. Greenfield's food is shared between three organizations: ServiceNet's Family Shelter, Community Action's Center for Self-Reliance and our food pantry. Turners Falls postal carriers donate all food collected to our food pantry. The totals are not yet set because food is still trickling in. As soon as I have a final total, I will post it!
Even though it looked like the weather was not going to work for us, this past Friday and Saturday (May 10 + 11) went off without a hitch. Friday was a great day with no rain during the event. Lots of donations and lots of hotdogs were enjoyed! Saturday was a wetter day, but we still made it most of the way through with just sprinkles, but during the last hour the skies decided to open up and the rain came down! We still had quite a few people stop by and visit our booth and all the hotdogs went!
